step pins

For precise positioning and reliable mechanics.

Step pins connect shafts of different diameters within a single component and thus fulfil important functions within mechanical assemblies. The individual steps can be used, for example, for guidance, positioning, spacing or to accommodate moving components. In the automotive industry in particular, step pins are used in car doors and seat mechanisms, amongst other applications. Cold forging enables the cost-effective production of stepped geometries with high repeatability and efficient use of material. Additional features such as grooves, flanges or threads can be integrated into the component depending on the design. This allows multiple functions to be combined in a single component, thereby reducing the number of manufacturing steps. For applications with high demands on wear resistance and fatigue strength, stepped bolts can be inductive-hardened in-house. Furthermore, depending on the specification, further heat treatments and coatings are possible. The combination of cold forging, precise finishing and in-house heat treatment enables the component to be reliably tailored to the specific application. This results in robust step pins for demanding mechanical systems and large-scale automated production runs.
